Claim 1

No one likes paying taxes. This should be pretty easy to agree with.

Claim 2

Taxes are necessary for any society to survive.

Claim 3

It makes sense to make taxes as simple as possible. I already dislike paying the taxes; why should I have to spend countless hours figuring out exactly what I owe in taxes?

Claim 4

The big three taxes that everyone pays are income tax, sales tax, and property tax. It would make more sense to raise one of these taxes and eliminate the other two because they create extra bureaucracies and government spending to manage the taxes.

Claim 5

Trying to choose which of the three types of taxes that should survive will spark a great debate. All three types of taxes have their own weaknesses.

Claim 6

The best of the three taxes are property tax. I like property tax for a number of reasons.
1. It's very simple. The county sends you a bill and you pay it.
2. You can control it by where you choose to live.
3. It is unavoidable. You can't hide your land like you can hide your money.
4. Land is the most nonrenewable resource that we have. Property tax encourages efficiency in our use of land.
5. Renters do not get a free ride. Their landlord pays property taxes and would have to charge tenants in rent.

Claim 7

Property tax should be modified to only be a tax on the value of one's land. It should encourage people to do something with the land that they own.

Claim 8

In my ideal country, the state would tax the counties based on how much revenue the counties obtain, and the federal government would tax the states in the same manner. However, the federal government has no right to mandate how a state collects revenue.
